Ghastly Weather
We had a sudden change in weather last week here in New Jersey. It went from being a baker’s oven, with temperatures at around 88ºF at midnight, to being a sort of washing machine set to the gentle cycle with just cold water because the heater’s been broken. In case you undertood that analogy, here’s another one: The Midwest took a Large Load over the weekend, the dial stuck on Spin Cycle with speeds set to Heavy Duty.
I saw some crazy footage of the flooding down in Oklahoma the other day. There was a man on his cell phone standing on top of his roof, with running water almost as high as the gutters. It was like he was standing on a little platform in the middle of a rushing river. That’s some scary stuff. The rainy weather had come from Tropical Storm Erin and sweeped hard through Minnesota, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Texas and other Midwest states.
Things in New Jersey aren’t nearly as bad. It’s just a little dark and rainy, which is the type of weather I enjoy the most; a nice bit of respite from sweating beneath the glaring sun. The garden won’t complain, at least. The forecast predicts that it’ll be like this for the next several days, getting hot again by Thursday, but we don’t know what next week will hold. I think tomorrow (or possibly tonight) will be good for a movie. I’ve rented The Raven, which I’m guessing has something to do with Edgar Allan Poe’s poem. I do so love ravens. I hope it’ll be a good film.
