Discoveries of a talentless writer

Scraps to Awards

April 10th, 2007 by Ray

Recently, the Kean writer’s group, which a few friends and I founded late last year, has been working on a ‘Preparation Point Template’ for helping writers plot out their characters’ stories. We started working on it last week, basing it off of a lesson Dr. Connor was teaching. It basically involves a line graph that looks like your traditional story plot, and a secondary graph that shows each of the character’s preparations on the way to his or her ultimate change. There’s also an accompanying sheet that details each point on the graphs.

I know, it sounds complicated, but it’s really easy to use. We showed Dr. Connor the prototype and a few drafts, and he seemed to like it. He said he’s putting us up for some kind of academic award for our contribution. “There’s money in it if you win,” he said. And I’ve got to say, I’m a pretty big fan of receiving random money. Plus, it doesn’t hurt to have an extra ‘Certificates’ entry on my resume!
